Gmail Introduction

Gmail is Google’s free web-based email service. It comes with built-in Google search technology and offers over 15GB of storage space. Users can permanently retain important emails, files, and images, and easily search for anything they need, making it a more intuitive way to view emails as part of a conversation. However, for some reason, users in mainland China are unable to access Gmail, even though Gmail continues to offer service in Simplified Chinese.

Storage

Gmail is a free web-based email service provided by Google, with a maximum of 15GB of free storage space.

In 2004, Gmail’s capacity was 1GB, and by 2005, it had increased to over 2GB. When it was first launched, it offered more than 100 times the storage capacity compared to other popular email services like Yahoo and Microsoft’s Hotmail.

On April 1, 2005, as an April Fools’ Day joke, Gmail doubled its storage capacity to over 2GB, and it continued to grow. Initially, the storage increased at a rate of approximately 100KB per second, and by reaching 2050MB, it started to increase at a rate of 10KB per second. The capacity exceeded 6998MB.

By 2006, the capacity was approximately 6GB.

By 2008, the capacity had exceeded 6998MB.

As of February 2011, the capacity had surpassed 7550MB and continued to increase.

Interface

Gmail utilizes AJAX to create a user-friendly interface that is much faster than traditional WebMail services. If the browser does not support AJAX, Gmail also provides a basic interface without AJAX.

Languages

Gmail can be used to send and read emails in most languages. The interface supports 38 languages: American English, British English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Bulgarian, Catalan, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
